This is how we roll

I am alive! I think I did good on my first day of American high school. I got lost and I couldn’t get my locker open but still I survived. The food wasn’t that bad and I had enough energy left for the cheerleading practice after school. I have met lots of nice people and I’m sure that I will make good friends here.

My schedule here is very nice. The fact that I don’t have to take any math might affect the way I think about my schedule. Anyway, my favourite hour is Speech & Drama! It’s so much fun, right now we are doing a speech where we introduce one of the classmates to the others. What a great way to get to know the people! Besides that I have Foods & Family, which is like kotitalous in Finland. We have already baked chocolate chip cookies, and yum they were good!

My other classes are Spanish, English, US history, Fashion Careers and Sculpture. I also have Study Hall every other day and Pride Time every day. During those hours you are supposed to do your homework. I am very happy to have 4 other exchange students in my school. There is a boy and a girl from Germany, a boy from Italy and a girl from Hungary. They are all very nice.

I finally got my very own uniform for cheerleading! I love it and I hope that I can buy it and take it back home with me. I will be cheering in the next football game and I am very excited about that. We have our practice 3 times a week and every friday we have the game. I have learned a lot and I can’t wait to learn more. We are also going to performance a dance for homecoming, which will be here in a month.

Speaking of which, somebody already asked me to homecoming. I actually don’t remember the moment when he asked but the next day in school I heard that I was going with him. I asked ’Oh really, am I?’ I had no clue. When I asked the boy, he said to me that he asked me on saturday and I had said yes. He might have asked me something like ‘Are you going to the homecoming?’ and then I would just say ‘Yes definitely!’ without understanding that he asked me to go with him. But anyway, it’s nice that he asked me and he knows that we are going as friends so win-win, I suppose? It’s time for homecoming dress shopping! And I don’t mind at all.

In Platteville there was a fest called Dairy Days. We were collecting money by doing facepainting with the cheerleaders. At night we wen’t for the rides that they had in there. I felt so old and weak because I got sick after 4 rides! Luckily I wasn’t the only one and after a while we left for having a bonfire with some friends from school. That’s the way how you roll here and I like it!

I have to admit that I have been a little homesick. I miss the ryebread and chocolate in Finland. Even more I miss some people but at least I will appreciate the relationships more when I come back. I am sure it will go away and on the other hand, I can’t wait to experience all the things that we have been planning to do here!

Glad to have Jack (the teddy) with me

On sunday I was boating with Veera and her hostfamily. We had a lot of fun and the weather was just perfect. We got a ride with jetski and it was totally insane. I was screaming every single second of the ten-minute ride.

Few days ago we were canning meat at our friend’s house. It was nice to be there as a family meeting another familly. It reminded me of the visists that we did with my family when I was little. I am enjoying the role of a bigsister here! It is something that I have never done before, but I think I am learning more every day. It’s nice to be the oldest kid in the house.

You better watch out! IMG_0861 IMG_0862
This weekend we were at the Lake House, where the parents of Heather (my hostmom) live. We had a lot of fun in there, but you will hear and see it all in the next post! Take care :)
